I have just been in prayer for three days and I have something burning on my spirit. Here goes…
The knowledge of God should be the single driving force of our lives. We were made to know Him, and it is by Him that all things were created and have their being (John 17:3, Rev. 4:11). We will never get anything straight in our lives until we set our gaze on Him. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
We don’t understand the implications of that statement. The Truth is a Man. His name is Jesus. He is Truth. When we know Truth, it sets us free (II Tim. 2:25), and if the Son has set you free then you are free indeed (John 8:38). When we know Him, we can discern anything that is false and walk in Truth.
His Name is merciful and gracious, longsuffering and abounding in truth, forgiving the iniquities of thousands, but by no means clearing the guilty (Ex. 34:6-7). He declared this Name to Moses as Moses encountered His Glory while hidden in the cleft of a rock. Moses came back from this encounter glowing with the glory of God. This is the power of His Name. This is the testimony of who He is. It is power and it is life.
He is a Consuming Fire (Deut. 24:17). His eyes are like a flame of fire (Rev. 1). When we set our gaze on Him, He purifies us and refines us like gold, and whoever sets his hope in Him, purifies Himself just as He is pure (I John 3:3).
Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father (Is. 9:6, Luke 2:11). He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Rev. 19:16). These names are not void of power. They have meaning—intense, captivating, fascinating, awe-inspiring meaning.
Ask the Lord to declare His Name to you. Ask Him to give you revelation of His beauty, power, majesty, and glory. He will do it—it’s His favorite thing to do. When He appeared to Manoah and his wife, the parents of Samson, Manoah asked Him who He was, and He said, “Why do you ask My Name, seeing that I am Wonderful?” Imagine his mischievous grin when He said that, because He questioned them for asking His Name, yet He told His Name in the response (two names actually)! He was really aching to declare His Name to them—He didn’t have to come down in all His blazing fire, but He did. He didn’t have to make Himself of no reputation and take on the form of a man and die on the cross either, but He did (Phil. 2:7-8).
Therefore, explore the knowledge of God. Ask Him to declare His Name to you. Become a student of the knowledge of God. It will revolutionize your life. This week, take one or two of the Lord’s Names and explore the Scriptures that focus on those aspects of Him. Then, take at least 20 minutes a day to sit in silence and meditate on that Name. Ask the Lord to reveal His Name to you with power.
“May the Lord grant to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him that you may know what is the hope of your calling and what are the riches of His glory in the inheritance of the saints” (Eph. 1:17-18).
